Centennial Lock Experts

Before we open a door we ask to see that it is yours. Some customers are surprised by the question; most are relieved once they think it through. A locksmith who opens anything for anyone is a locksmith nobody should call. So we check a piece of identification, a lease, an ownership paper or a neighbour who can vouch, and we do it politely because being locked out is stressful enough. The same care runs through the rest of the visit. We explain each step, we leave the frame and finish as we found them, and we make sure the keys in your hand are the only ones that work.

  • No surprises on the doorstepWhat we described on the phone is what we plan to do. If the door tells us something different when we see it, we stop and talk before going further.
  • Helping you choose wellHardware ranges from basic to heavy-duty and simple to electronic. We explain the differences that actually matter for your door and leave the choice with you.
  • Neat work, neatly finishedHoles drilled cleanly, hardware aligned, nothing crooked or forced. A lock should look like it belongs on the door, and we take the time to make sure it does.

How a visit goes

A high security cylinder is rated by independent laboratory testing that times how long it holds out against picking, impressioning, drilling, prying and wrenching. The lock body and deadbolt carry a separate hardware grade for strength, cycle life and finish.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Mapping who needs what

We sit down with whoever manages the building and list the doors, the people and the hours. A stockroom key and a front door key are rarely the same conversation.

  2. 2 of 3

    Changing the locks in order

We rekey door by door in an order that keeps the business open, starting with the entrance a departed key holder used most, and label everything as we go.

  3. 3 of 3

    Handing over a key record

You get the new keys, a simple written list of which key opens what, and a suggestion for where to store the record so the next change is easier.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 58%Older homes

About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Older homes tend to have had many hands on their doors: owners, tenants, tradespeople, family. A locksmith visiting such a house pays attention to who holds keys now, and rekeying or a keyed-alike set often matters more than any new hardware.

  • 23%

Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).

Shared entrances mean fobs, intercoms and buzzers alongside conventional locks. A locksmith can service the mechanical side of those doors and advise on how the fob system and the cylinder work together when management asks.
